Horse Grooming Tips

Horse Grooming

There is more to keeping a horse than simply training and entering them in competitions. You’ve also got to know how to properly look after your horse and ensure they are fit, healthy and well groomed.

If you are thinking about adopting a horse then there are a few things you should know about grooming. If you’re having a break from doing some work, looking up horse grooming supplies or even taking five from playing at;, then below are a few simple grooming tips you might be keen to learn.

When your horse has a tangled tail, begin by washing it with soap and water. Alternatively, Ivory liquid will work well. After rinsing the soap out, apply some hair conditioner and follow the instructions on the bottle. Once the tail is dry, carefully untangle the mat using a plastic comb with large teeth.

Try not to shampoo your horse too often because it will wash out the natural oils from his coat. This will end up dulling his fur which won’t make it look as shiny. A product like Blue Moon Horse is particularly good as it doesn’t cause an itchy tail and eliminates static and flyaway hairs. In addition, it will whiten white socks too.

When it comes to hoof cleaning, avoid artificial hoof polish because this can often leave quite obvious runny lines on white hooves. Instead, use baby oil and wipe off any left over oil so nothing sticks.

You can get white socks and face marks clean using Pearl Drops toothpaste. Using a old toothbrush, scrub the socks white but be careful when you clean your horse’s face.

Grooming is a great way to bond with your horse. You can also check for lumps, bumps and scratches while you groom him.
